Senior Swimmers Shatter Team Records in Florida
The Temecula Triton Swim Club traveled cross country to Clearwater, Florida to compete at the 2016 Dolfin Junior National Championship Cup. This is the farthest our Club has ever traveled for a meet of this caliber. We had eight athletes qualify for this highly competitive meet. During the course of the week our Club produced three new Junior National competitors and in addition, three new Futures Championship hopefuls. This has not been achieved by any local club in the area.
Leading off with the Club’s new Junior Nationals, the streak of success began with Madison Frederick qualifying in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Other qualifiers were Hayden Cornellison and McKayla Sanchez with performances in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM respectfully.
Emily Moore was our first Futures qualifier of the event. She had a very productive meet dropping time in preliminary rounds and finals of her 100 and 200 backstrokes on the way to new Futures cuts. In addition to these impressive swims, Emily battled hard in finals in the 100 and 200 freestyles to best times. She had an outstanding meet making finals in 4 out of the 5 events she swam.
Megan Kelley kept the momentum going with a sensational swim in the 100 butterfly making her a new Futures qualifier. Megan dropped over a second in the preliminary round and close to three seconds in finals. In addition to her butterfly races, Megan made finals in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle.
Evyn Kellher added a phenomenal time trials swim for a new Futures qualifier in the 100 backstroke. Evyn dominated the time trials heat to earn a new best time. In addition to his Futures cut, Evyn swam finals in the 50 backstroke and 200 freestyle. He earned an 8th place finish in the 50 backstroke. To sum it up, Evyn also swam to personal best times in the 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle.
Ben Vanderhyden added to the mix with two new Sectional cuts in the 50 and 200 freestyles. Ben swam strong in all of his breaststroke events but excelled greatly in his freestyle swims. Ben had a tremendous time trials swim in the 200 freestyle to earn new Sectional cut by dropping over two seconds.
Our youngest athlete on the trip Andrea Lindemann dropped time in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and added a new Sectional cut in the 100 breaststroke.
